Overview
What is medical weight loss?
Medical weight loss pairs prescription medication with the oversight of Dr. Shahid Mallick, MD. Instead of willpower alone, it addresses the biology behind hunger, cravings and metabolism.
At our Sugar Land clinic, your plan starts with your labs and health history. If medication is appropriate, we choose it together, start low, and adjust as your body responds.
Appetite & cravings
Prescription options can quiet constant hunger and food noise, so healthy choices feel possible again.
Your metabolism
Hormones, insulin and metabolic health all shape weight. We look at them before choosing a path.
Real accountability
Regular check-ins, dose adjustments and a care team who notices how you are doing.

Your options
Three paths,
A quick, side-by-side look at the prescription options your provider may discuss. You do not need to choose before your visit.
GLP-1 medication
Semaglutide
The active ingredient in Wegovy® and Ozempic®
- How it works
- Mimics GLP-1, a natural hormone that helps you feel full sooner, slows digestion and supports steadier blood sugar.
- How it is taken
- Typically a once-weekly injection, with the dose increased gradually.
- Often considered for
- Adults who want help with appetite and portion control as part of a long-term plan.
Dual GIP / GLP-1 medication
Tirzepatide
The active ingredient in Zepbound® and Mounjaro®
- How it works
- Acts on two hormone pathways, GIP and GLP-1, to reduce appetite and support how your body handles sugar.
- How it is taken
- Typically a once-weekly injection, with the dose increased gradually.
- Often considered for
- Adults looking for a GLP-1 based option that also targets the GIP pathway.
Oral appetite suppressant
Phentermine
Sold under names such as Adipex-P®
- How it works
- A stimulant-type medication that lowers appetite, approved for short-term use alongside healthy eating and activity.
- How it is taken
- An oral tablet or capsule, usually taken once daily.
- Often considered for
- Adults who prefer a non-injectable option and whose heart health and blood pressure allow it.

A good fit,
It may suit you if
- You have tried diet and exercise and the scale will not move
- Constant hunger or cravings make it hard to stay on track
- Your weight affects your energy, joints, sleep or confidence
- You have weight-related health concerns you want to address
- You want a plan guided and monitored by a medical provider
Tell your provider if
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy
- You or your family have a history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2
- You have a history of pancreatitis, gallbladder or kidney problems
- You have heart disease, high blood pressure or a heart rhythm condition

Weight loss FAQs
Your questions,
Not sure where to start?
Our care team is happy to talk it through.
01
How does medical weight loss work at Ask Health Services?
It starts with a private consultation and lab testing at our Sugar Land clinic. Dr. Shahid Mallick, MD reviews your health history and results, then recommends whether semaglutide, tirzepatide or phentermine fits your goals. We check in regularly, adjust your plan and help you build habits that last.
02
What is the difference between semaglutide and tirzepatide?
Semaglutide works on one hormone pathway, GLP-1. Tirzepatide works on two, GIP and GLP-1. Both are usually once-weekly injections that start at a low dose and increase gradually. Your provider helps you choose based on your health, history and goals.
03
Is phentermine an injection?
No. Phentermine is an oral medication, usually taken once a day. It is approved for short-term use alongside healthy eating and activity. Because it is a stimulant, your provider checks your heart health and blood pressure before prescribing it.
04
What side effects should I expect?
With semaglutide and tirzepatide, the most common side effects are digestive, such as nausea, diarrhea or constipation, and are often most noticeable when starting or increasing a dose. Phentermine can cause dry mouth, trouble sleeping or a faster heartbeat. Your provider reviews these with you and adjusts your plan if needed.
05
Do I need to have diabetes to take a GLP-1 medication?
No. Your provider evaluates you for weight management based on your weight, health history and goals. You do not need a diabetes diagnosis to be considered.
06
How soon will I see results?
Weight loss with medication is gradual. Many people notice changes in appetite early on, while weight changes build over months as the dose is adjusted. Everyone responds differently, and results vary.
07
How much does medical weight loss cost?
Cost depends on the medication and plan your provider recommends. Call 832.374.0030 or text 281.714.9492 and our team will walk you through current options.
08
Do you see patients outside Sugar Land?
Yes. Our clinic at 7102 Tarrington Avenue Ste 502, Sugar Land, TX 77479 welcomes patients from Missouri City, Richmond, Stafford and the greater Houston area.
